The time has come for an obligatory blog post about a fresh new year, and making resolutions about how I’m going to drink less and exercise more, have fewer typos and see friends more, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
For me, 2015 wasn’t a bad year – quite good, actually – but it was a year of extreme highs and extreme lows. I’m craving a bit more consistency, so I made some pretty drastic life changes to better serve my personal and professional goals. While it’s just a coincidence these changes are lining up with the new year, like a January Joiner at the gym I’m going all in – starting now (or, Monday).
Sometimes January Joiners get picked on, because we know that in a matter of weeks the gym will thin back out. But most of us have been Joiners at one point or another, for some reason or another. January is as good a reason as any to commit to a goal; the pursuit of that goal shows a person if she really wants that after all.
So, the only promise I’m making to myself is to root for those January Joiners, to hope that the treadmills are still full in March, to applaud people who take risks when the rewards are greater, and to celebrate people who are trying their best to be awesome.
Because that’s how I want people to treat me, too.
